Forward emails to Evernote
This method needs a little bit of manual work but, if done frequently it can be a lifesaver.
Evernote account comes with an Evernote email address which you can use to forward all the important emails from Gmail. So, in any case, if you lose access to your Gmail account you do not need to worry about your important emails as you have successfully created the backup.
If you are a basic user of Evernote, you can try this feature out by testing 5 emails. Once you like it you can upgrade your plan and start using it. However, if you have a premium plan you can forward up to 200 emails every day.
If you are opting for this method, you can set a reminder on your Google calendar to remind you to take back up for at least once a week.
Automatic email forwarding to another account
Another option on the email backup list is setting an auto email forwarding to another Gmail account. This option is pretty straightforward and easy to follow.
It’s just you are not downloading the backup of your emails anywhere but keeping a copy of all the emails on another account. This automated option is quite convenient because it just takes the one-time effort of changing the settings and starts forwarding your new emails automatically.
If you don’t have a secondary email address, then you can create one to keep a copy of all important emails and use that email address in forwarding setting of Gmail. You can choose to send either all the emails or just a few from a particular sender by creating a filter.
With this method even if you lose access to your main Gmail account you can still access your emails on another account.
- Now let me show you how you can change your Gmail settings:
- Go to your Gmail settings, click on Forwarding and POP/IMAP
- Under this tab the first option you will see is Forwarding:
- Select Forward a copy of incoming emails to (add your secondary email address in the field) and (select the option keep Gmail’s copy in the inbox)
- Google will then send a confirmation code to your secondary email address which you need to verify by adding the confirmation code on the forwarding settings page.
Note: If you do not wish to forward all your emails then you can create a filter by clicking on Creating a filter option
